Whilst a new high-quality brush works like a dream, if you don’t look after it you’ll find that your brush rapidly deteriorates and your hair will suffer as a consequence. In this article, we take a look at ways in which you can increase the longevity of your brush and ensure it serves your hair well for years to come!
Ensure all Hair is Removed from the Brush
This is absolutely key – even if you choose to ignore every other step on this list, please make sure you follow this one. Any hairs caught up in your brush aren’t just going to inconvenience the quality of your styling, they are going to become homes for all sorts of germs and bacteria. The last thing you want is to be putting these back into your hair when you brush, so take the time to make sure your brush is completely hair-free when you finish your styling routine.
Use Shampoo to Clean Your Brush
Baby shampoo is extremely good for cleaning off brushes. A simple but effective way to give your brushes a thorough clean is as follows:
- Thoroughly soak the brush in warm water, and rub a little baby shampoo into the bristles
- Take a comb, and very carefully use this to remove any trapped debris. You need to be extremely gentle to avoid damaging the brush.
- Rinse the brush, and towel-dry.
Using Baking Soda to Remove Product
In addition to hair debris, there is a chance of hair product building up in your brush. Ideally, you don’t want to rub this growing mix of chemicals back into your hair, so once every two weeks clean your brush with baking soda using the following method: All you need to do is add about a half cup of baking soda to some warm water, and allow your brush to soak in there for about fifteen minutes. After that, gently dab the moisture off, and allow it to air dry on a towel.
Remember, your hair deserves the best care you can possibly give it. In order to do this, you need to make sure that the tools you use on a daily basis are well looked after. This will only have a positive impact on your look and style, and leave your hair feeling healthier and more lustrous.
